My future plan

My supervisory committee commented on my thesis during my defence, including: 1:  it would be better if I had more interviews with more stakeholders; 2: My samples on the ALC decisions were too limited, it would be better if I had more case studies.

During my interview with Mr. Herold Steves, one of the co-founders of the ALR, he suggested that the ALR should consider concurrent issues, such as matching the massive amount of idled farmland with the huge demand of young farmers for farmland.

Based on these comments, I will continue my studies on the ALR. Mainly I will focus on:

1. More interviews with hundreds of farmers themselves.

Immediately after the completion of my thesis paper, I became a volunteer for the Land Keepers Society (LKS). This Cowichen Bay-originated farmers’ organization is in the process of reorganizing to become a provincial-level NGO, aiming to protect farmland and farmers’ rights within this beautiful province. I am proud to work with them and integrate my study work with this cause.

The LKS website is: https://www.landkeeperssociety.org/

2. More analysis on the cases under the ALC’s decisions and the BC Supreme Court verdicts.

3. Communication with the other farmers’ organizations, such as the Young Agrarians, BC Agricultural Council, etc..
